Every Single “That’s What She Said” from the Office

I love the US version of the office. At first I was a little skeptical (season 1) because I was also a big fan of the UK version as well, and the first 5 episodes were carbon copies of previous UK episodes.  Thankfully, the UK show only went 2 short seasons, so that could not go on forever.

Somewhere around season 2 (season 1 was a mid season replacement and had less than 10 episodes), the show started to come into its own, and the characters started to emerge as the stars of the show.

Dwight single handedly carried the show on several episodes, and still remains the main improvement over the UK version (Gareth in the UK version couldn’t hold Dwight’s Jock).

Tim from the UK version is as good or better than the US Jim (sorry ladies).

David Brent and Michael Scott are a wash (both are just amazing in their roles that it’s unfair to say who is more amazing).

The real place where the US version shines is the supporting cast.  In the UK, they really didn’t develop good story lines with peripheral characters.  In the US version, the supporting characters carry the show at times (Creed, Oscar, Toby, Angela, Meredith, Kevin; they are all gold).

In fact, I don’t feel right just naming a few characters, so I must also give credit to Andy, Stanley, Kelly, Ryan, Jan, Pam, Darrel, Roy and even Karen.  It took me 2 seconds to come up with that list.  How many other shows can you name 15 characters by heart without even using IMDB or Wikipedia?

One of the ongoing themes in the show is Michael’s inappropriateness in just about every situation.  He always seems to say the wrong things at the wrong time. One of those sayings happens to be one of the more immature things that an adult could say; “that’s what she said.”

Making a joke by saying “that’s what she said” in 2005 would result in someone telling you that you are a douche bag and not very funny.  Thanks to Michael Scott, if you say it in 2008, you will have high fives coming at you like an amateur Bukkake video.

That’s what she said.

My favorite line:

“That’s what she said”

Thanks for Shoemoney for pointing this out.
